2013: the year I become a resolution maker.

I am not a resolution maker.

I honestly don’t know if I can say that I’ve ever truly made a New Year’s resolution. Ever. Not because I don’t believe in them, or because I have a fear of commitment. I just by chance, never have.

But a few of my friends have inspired me lately with their wishes for 2013 {see here and here, and also, an oldie but a goodie, here}. And so, I think this is the year. The year I make some resolutions just because. Because when I think about it, these are things that are important to me, or at least, if anything, because these are things I want to try.

My heart is in it for these goals, I can feel it.

{And your heart is always a good place to start.}

2013, let’s do this:

1. Be a better listener

2. Learn more about photography

3. Open an Etsy shop

4. Handwritten letters + stay in better touch with friends

5. Read 25 books

6. Learn to knit

7. Practice more yoga

8. Cook more dinners

9. Travel to 5 different places

10. Take less, GIVE MORE

Over the next month or so I plan to write more specifically about these goals; why I chose them, how I’m going to try and achieve them. But for now, this is the list.

This is it, 2013. Let’s have some fun.

  1. OPEN AN ETSY SHOP?!?!? What kind of shop!! I’ll be your first customer!! TELL ME MORE!

I wish you lived closer to me because I’m looking for a yoga bud. I’m working on my headstands #truestory

And: just sent you aaaanother email.

    • I will post about the details soon!

And I wish we could be yoga buds, too. Wouldn’t that be so super fun. YES.

  2. These are great goals! And not so original either, I like that. Being a better listener is something I really (ok, REALLY!) need to work on. Happy 2013!

  3. oh my OH MY. i can’t wait to hear more about this!!! especially the etsy shop and those five different places – do they have to be new to you or just different from one another? because nyc should totes be in the top 5 :)

    • I haven’t decided if I am going to commit to 5 new places (although I want to) or just 5 different places total. Either way I’m coming to NYC. OBVI.

  4. Your Etsy shop will just be so awesome! I’m so glad that you decided to open one. You make a lot of cute stuff and have a lot of great ideas. And your photographs. Well, I think you know how I feel about those. :) My friend, Brittany, and I are actually going to start taking yoga classes this month. We have our first class next. I’m pretty excited! I need to work on my listening skills, as well. Moreso my retaining skills, but definitely my listening skills, too. Good luck with your resolutions! You’ll do brilliantly, I’m sure. :)

    • Oh, I hope you like yoga. It’s so peaceful, I really think you will.

And thanks for the nice thoughts on my to-be shop! I hope I can make it awesome.

  5. I wanna do yoga with you.

  6. I want to learn to knit too!! & I can’t wait to hear more about this etsy shop!!!!

    • I tried in December to learn, but didn’t commit enough. We can do this, though. If other people can, then so can we! 2013: THE YEAR OF THE KNITTER.

  7. I am incredibly excited about your Etsy shop; I can’t wait to hear details! I just know it will be amazing. I actually can’t wait to hear about *everything.* Do you have your books picked out already? I feel like I have a million more questions, but I’ll wait until your other posts…

    • I’m excited about it all, too! And a little nervous, but that’s good, right?

About the books… no I have’t picked mine out yet. I don’t know if I’ll plan or just pick as I go. I started my first yesterday– The Night Circus. Which was recommended by Fran. I’m hoping it’s a good one!

  8. Fun list of goals for the new year! Good luck with them – they seem reasonably attainable!
I like the staying in contact with friends one. I plan to work on that this year as well. Sometimes it’s too easy to let relationships slip away.

    • Oh, it’s so important nowadays isn’t it? Also, I didn’t say it, but I’m pretty much done with Facebook. I think it’s such a lame way to keep in touch with people. It’s fine for some, but not but the best friends. They deserve something more, something better, I think.

I want to write more letters (sincere ones), call more, and best of all, VISIT.

  9. Looking forward to your year!!! Also, this etsy shop, THE ANTICIPATION IS KILLING ME.

  10. Great resolutions! We have a lot of similar ones – hopefully we can keep each other on track! Um and I very interested in hearing more about this Etsy shop… I am sure it will be splendid!

  11. love. your list is perfect. I can’t wait to hear more.

And girl, you travel a ton! Is this 5 places you haven’t been before?

    • I know, I do, don’t I?

Hmmm… I’m thinking of some guidelines for myself– to keep it interesting! Stay tuned!

  12. I’m with you on numbers 2,4 7 and 8! Especially 8. Happy new year!

  13. I can’t wait to see you achieve these goals :) You’re awesome! Such perfect goals to make 2013 rock.

  14. What an awesome list! I love that everything is straight forward. I wish you luck completing them all. I’m very excited to hear about this Etsy shop and your travels. Happy 2013!

  15. Good list! I share number 1-3 and 7 with you. Here’s to a good 2013!

  16. This is a good list! I have found that I make fewer and fewer resolutions each year, in hopes that I will one year accomplish all of them :) I’m excited about your opening an Etsy shop this year! Oh and knitting!- I forgot that I was contemplating adding that to my resolutions list. Thanks for the reminder!

  17. eeep! etsy shop?! count me in, i want to buy all the pretty anna things. ;)
