Oh, today. Today was for waking up early while the sun was shining crazy beautiful bright in the sky. Today was for eating brunch at the Friendly Toast, and stopping for our recent favorite donuts and coffee on the way. Today was cold so we bundled up the best we could— ears covered, hands protected, layers upon layers of shirts and sweaters and socks and tights. Today was for tea and books and naps under blankets while the winter sun shone strong. Today was for creative dreaming, and making some big ideas finally come to life.

Today was peaceful.

Today was happy.

Today was good.

In the way only a Saturday can be.

Hoping your Saturday was a good one, too.

Happy weekend. ♥

sister style // v. 1

Welcome to the very first EVER episode of Sister Style…

Starting Yours Truly and my favorite sister, MEG!

I’m humoring you all with the volume one business. In reality, I have no idea if we’ll ever do this again. I thought “Sister Style” was kind of catchy and kept saying it the whole time we were snapping these pictures. (Think “superstar!” and Mary Katherine Gallagher and you’ve got the right image in your head. Except instead of lunges, more like strike a pose.) My sister and I took a day trip to Portsmouth, New Hampshire this past Saturday and while we were there I had the idea to do this joint outfit post. I saw the white wall, and it just seemed like the perfect opportunity for an impromptu photo shoot. My sister went along with it happily, which is why she’s my favorite.

First of all, if you don’t already know, Meg and I are super close. We used to fight like animals when we were younger, but now we’re the chummiest of chums. She lives with me and Zan (our apartment has two floors!), and I always feel super lucky to get to spend as much time with her as I do, especially when Zan’s working late, or on weekends. I think one of the best things about having a sister, besides having a forever friend, is being able to share clothes. When we were in high school we wouldn’t ever dare to be caught dead sporting the same outfits (I shake my head at the immaturity), but now, we are glad to have a second wardrobe to choose an outfit from. Imagine!

These two outfits are a pretty typical representation of our style. We’re in love with Madewell and J.crew, but have had a lot of great luck at Old Navy in the past year, too. I’ve been dabbling in a little vintage lately, and of course, we’re both suckers for Target. But who isn’t?

On Meg: J.crew vest {similar} :: Madewell sweathirt :: Old Navy pants

On me: Crewcuts hat :: similar coat :: similar shirt {and here} :: similar skirt :: similair boots

Yeah, I’m wearing a children’s hat. WHATEVS.

I’ll be sharing photos from Portsmouth soon. Have you ever been? It was my first time visiting and I loved it!

Steppin’ Out.

Check out my new coat.

What a BEAUTY.

When I saw it on the rack at J.crew my heart literally skipped a beat.

Then it started racing at like a million beats a minute and I know why.

It’s because I was falling in love.

That happens to me sometimes at J.crew.

It just does. And there’s nothing I can do about it.

Meg and I spent Saturday afternoon Christmas shopping at the outlet mall. It was such a nice day for outlet shopping. The sun was out and it wasn’t too cold, which is good because you’re outdoors a lot skipping around from store to store. We picked up some gifts for our family and even grabbed a few things for ourselves the sales were so good. We had lunch and talked Christmas talk. You know, things we’re most looking forward to this season and the best gift ideas for the people we love.

It was just what I needed after the longest week ever at school.

Sister time and my holiday shopping is nearly done.

How was you’re weekend? Hope it was a good one!

Steppin’ Out.

This Saturday I headed into Boston to enjoy the gorgeous weather and check out the Boston Book Fair in Copley Square. It was such a beautiful fall day. The air was cool and the sun was shining. Perfection.

Oh, and do you like my jacket? It’s an oldie, but a goodie. During the big move to the new apartment I rediscovered this red blazer that I literally forgot I had. It’s J.Crew circa 2006, but to me it feels like new. I wore it Friday and Saturday of this week and I might even take it another step and throw it on again today. It’s too cute not to. How could I have neglected this piece of gold for so long?!

In other news: Those glasses are fake! I found them at Anthro last summer and I’ve been wanting to wear them for fun, but kept chickening out until now. They’re totally awesome (and dorky), and I’ve always secretly wanted glasses. So there, voila, now I’ve got some. HA!

I loved just walking around Back Bay yesterday. It was packed with people, which I usually don’t like, but something about the book festival made it not so bad. Probably because the crowd was there for a purpose, which was the same reason I was there too. There were tents upon tents filled with books and book lovers, there was live music that put a little skip in my step, and there was this feeling of fall in the air that was so pleasant. At the book fair I made sure to stop at the Drawn and Quarterly booth, where my cousin in-law was working the crowd, and then made my way on over to the new Anthropologie, which always makes me swoon.

All in all a fantastic Saturday. I enjoyed every minute.
