Archives for July 2011

happy birthday, dear friend.

I can hardly believe it, but it’s true. To be honest, I almost missed it altogether, this little bloggy birthday of mine. I’m a few days late, but we won’t let that get in the way of celebrating. Never. On July 10, 2009 I became a real live blogger. It started with a simple post, an idea really, but I have kept it up for two whole years and this lady is proud.

My very first post ever, in March 2008 was a good one (love that quote), but didn’t quite hit the mark and take me soaring into the blogging world. Haha, I can remember not knowing what to write! It was all so foreign to me back then. Write my thoughts down? For all the world to see? Crazy.

But for two years now I have been writing almost every day. And after two years I can safely say that I love it. It’s a hobby, an outlet, a place to keep track of my thoughts, and my happenings, and my world.

I have saved memories.

I have made friends.

I have been inspired by decorating, and fashion, and interesting people.

I have discovered I love writing.

And taking pictures.

And I never, ever let the small things pass me by.

Thanks for being a part of it!

on trying new things…

I was at a “Taco Dinner” at Zan’s house this weekend, happily filling my plate with delicious goodies when Zan’s younger cousin Eleanor asked why all my tacos looked the same. As I looked around I saw that many of the other adults were making different varieties of tacos and mixing up the fixings to the point where their plates looks tremendously more interesting than mine.

Looking down again at my plate I saw this: taco shells, meat, cheese, sour cream.

Some may say picky, others may say boring, I say delicious.

My reply to Eleanor was, “I know what I like and I eat what I like.”

I live by that statement. I am a peanut-butter and jelly kind of girl. I often eat the same things for lunch and dinner week after week after week. Is there anything wrong with this? I don’t really think so. Does this mean that I don’t try new things? Absolutely not. Although at my favorite restaurants I often don’t even look at the menu, I am very good at trying new things and stepping out of my comfort zone. I just only do it when the time feels right for me to do it. So there are times when you’ll see me eating sushi, and thai food, and indian food, and even bone marrow (I tried it once at Toro!), but most of the time you’ll just see me eating turkey sandwiches, and chicken piccata, and definitely a lot of peanut butter a jelly.

And I like it that way.

fabulous.

“Later that day I got to thinking about relationships. There are those that open you up to something new and exotic, those that are old and familiar, those that bring up lots of questions, those that bring you somewhere unexpected, those that bring you far from where you started, and those that bring you back. But the most exciting, challenging and significant relationship of all is the one you have with yourself. And if you can find someone to love the you you love, well, that’s just fabulous.”

I’ve been watching a lot of Sex and the City lately. I could watch it for hours and days and years. I love it so much I thought it deserved a blog post, so here it is. Thank you, lovely ladies of SATC. You will always and forever be my favorite.

Ohmmmm.

Practicing yoga this summer has been the perfect way for me to really relax and soak my vacation in. It’s really challenging, but peaceful at the same time. I’ve been going to Yoga Baptiste in Brookline Village for about six months now and I love it. This summer I’m really pumping up the action with a monthly unlimited card, so I’ve been making sure to head over there as often as I can. The room is 95 degrees so it gets really really sweaty in the studio but it’s so satisfying when you leave and know you can start your day fresh and humbled.

Do you practice yoga? I love the way it makes me feel and really hope I can keep it up and become a true “yogi”. It’s enlightening and energizing. It’s simple and awesome (my favorite teacher says this allll the time).

If you haven’t tried yoga I encourage you to grab a mat (and a towel) and try it. You’ll like it, I promise.

Bring your water.
Bring your energy.
Bring your presence.

Namaste.
