a mix of photos + filters + my favorite places.

This post is mostly a collection of photos filled with a mishmash of places and moments from this weekend. I took my camera everywhere I went and snapped pictures when I felt like it and was present in the moment when I felt like doing that, too. I think I’ve finally found a balance in the capture.

Here are some of the views worth sharing…

These two neighborhoods, Beacon Hill and The South End, are two of my most favorites in this city. There are always new pockets to discover, but for me, the highlight is always about visiting the most loved and most familiar. I’m a sucker for routine, a creature of habit– and this weekend, these photos, are no different.

I could walk down these brick lined streets a thousand times, in winter, spring, summer, or fall—

and never, ever tire of it.

P.S. For those of you who’ve asked, I take my photos with a Nikon D3100 (above) and my iPhone 4. Lately, I’ve been filtering all my photos through the VSCO cam app on my iphone. I love the tones and the feel it gives to my pictures. My dream is to someday get Photoshop, but for now I’m just sticking with the freebies.

P.P.S. For those of you who’ve given compliments on my photography, THANK YOU. Thank you, thank you, thank you. It always makes me smile and it really and truly means a whole awful lot. ♥

  1. I love the South End. If we had unlimited moneyz, we’d totally move there. South End Buttery makes the GREATEST breakfast burrito. And your photographs? So amazing.

    • And if I had unlimited moneyz, I’d move to Beacon Hill!

My favesie at The Buttery is the buttery biscuit. Daaaaaaaaang, it’s good.

  2. Well this post just speaks to me for so many reasons. I love the buttery, love the SOWA market, love the VSCO app and love your photos!!! Win. Win. (win. win.) Also, I began reading The Fault with Our stars yesterday per your recommendation through audio book and so far, so great. Feels like YA lit and I love YA lit.

    • It is YA! Yes, I love them, too!

Isn’t listening to books so great? I’m listening to One Day right now and am LOVING it. Put that one on your to-read list, also! I knew you will enjoy it!

  3. Love these photos! You’re making me want to take a weekend trip to Boston before it gets too cold!

I just got the VSCO app and am still working on figuring all the options out. I’m such an Instagram simpleton!

  4. Anna, you really know how to take pictures so that the colours stand out. And I’ve got photoshop but barely know how to use it. Maybe I need to attend a class

  5. Great pictures, I am from the Boston suburbs, and am pretty familiar with the city, but have never/would LOVE to explore it with a camera just like this. A little bit of in the moment & a little bit of capturing the moment = perfect.

  7. Oh I love the Buttery!! This post just decided that I’m going to SoWa next weekend. No questions.

  8. i love seeing boston through your eyes. you always capture it’s essence, and in such a beautiful way!

  9. I just stumbled upon your blog and have spent most of my day looking at your photos and posts (very productive day here at work). I love your photos! What do you use to edit your photos? Are they pre-settings?

    • Thank you! I actually just use the iphone VSCO cam app! I email my photos to my phone and then edit them on there. It’s really easy, and I love the feel that those filters give to my pics. Hope I helped answer your question!

  10. I’m not sure how else to say it: YOUR PHOTOS ARE GORGEOUS!!!! Love, love, love looking through them.

Question though: do you ever find that using VSCO makes your photos blurry? I keep running into that problem.

  11. These photos are so beautiful! And they scream fall, too (which is a good thing, btw). I especially love the boots and bike photos. What pretty neighborhoods you’ve found + photographed!

  12. Anna, these are wonderful!! Really captures that “mom” (moment)!

  13. Your photos of Boston/New England would make the BEST coffee table book. Just sayin’…. I can see it in the window of Blackstone’s or the Flat of the Hill, or over at Hudson, on a an actual coffee table. Love the photos- love the blog! Hope you are doing well!
