It’s time! We’re off! Up, up, and away!
At this moment we are heading to the airport, bags all packed and ready to go. I can’t believe this day is actually here. All my nights pouring over photos on the internet and soon! so soon I will see it all with my own two eyes.
I can hardly believe I got my act together to show you what I packed in my suitcase, but I did! And this alone is something to celebrate. I decided a few weeks ago to be bold and go for the carry-on approach, but had a little bit of a hard time these last few days narrowing down what I wanted to bring. I’m a tricky sort, because I’m one of those people who can pack for a weekend in NYC with just a small shoulder bag, but I’m also the girl who stuffs her car to the brim when driving home for the week. It’s like I know how to pack light, but don’t always follow the rules myself. For this trip, I wanted to pack light, but I also wanted to bring a lot of outfits. First of all, I love clothes, and second I feel like I need to be prepared for all kinds of weather. Will it be sunny or foggy? Warm or cool? So I packed a little bit of everything, rolled it up reeeeeal real tight and… I can’t quite believe it, BUT IT FITS {pretty much perfectly}. A springtime miracle if there ever was one.
Here’s what’s coming out west with me:
In my Everlane bag:
1 pair of jeans
7 tops
4 t-shirts
2 pairs of shorts
3 dresses
1 romper
1 skirt
jewelry / belt
underwear, socks, etc
bathing suit/cover up
make-up
In my Madewell bag:
wallet
iphone
sunglasses
camera gear
In my canvas tote:
ipad, kindle
hat
shoes // TOMS + saltwater sandals
Things I had to put in Zan’s carry-on because mine wouldn’t zip:
whoops!
2 cardigans
skinny corduroys
extra shirt for sleeping
{I tried to avoid this, but it couldn’t be helped!}
And of course, I’m layering up on my travel outfit to bring a few extra essentials:
leggings
striped tee
walking sneakers
sweatshirt
patagonia fleece
vest
rain jacket
{if you’re looking for me at the airport, I’ll be the girl sweating and loving it.}
So now I’m wondering, do you think I did an okay packing job?
A little excessive, but we are going for 9 days and at least I’ll be prepared!

Have a great weekend, and I’ll be back with photos upon my return!

XO!
Excellent work – I LOVE packing posts. Have the most wonderful time on your big adventure!!!
I am so, so impressed!! I got fairly good at the RyanAir-packing in Europe, but I’m the same as you when it comes to having the car- I turn into “MUST TAKE IT ALL” bag lady. I’m already trying to mentally prepare myself for our big road trip this summer so that the dogs actually have space in the car and aren’t having to snooze on top of LL Bean totes! I need some of those pack-shoes-bags, too- I always intend to buy some, but never remember until I’m packing for a trip. :/
Have the BEST time! Can’t wait to see your pics!!
Have a great time! If you’re doing The Real SF Tour, you will need those layers because no area of the city is the same temperature! It’s pretty remarkable.
Hello from Paris! Packing and travel to-do lists have been ON THE MIND lately for me as well. And the Weekender bag is the way to go! Have so so so much fun!!!
You’ve got skills! Seriously, I’m impressed. I think you covered all potential contingencies. I am the classic UNDER packer so I like any tips on packing for long trips. I’m that traveler who has to buy everything at the stores, and wishes I would have brought this or brought that. It drives my over-packer husband crazy.
I hope you have a fun and safe trip! Looking forward to hearing about your adventures. ;)
:) I love packing posts! How did you manage to sneak the third bag as a carryon??
It’s always inspiring to see how other pack to look cute on vacation while still only using carry ons! Also, I have those exact TOMS and love them. I’m excited to follow along with your adventures via Instagram!
Anna, you did so well! Packing for a trip that you know will have different destinations and lots of photos is definitely hard for me. I am a chronic over-packer, fearful that I will miss something…more the full car for the week.
Your picks are great. Looking forward to following your insta-feed, as always.
You just reminded me how I obsessed over that ace & jig polka dot dress, and never bought it! eBay, here I come! Have a great trip.
You did an amazing job! I’ve loved seeing all your fun photos and I can’t wait to see more!
Omg you are amazing. First: everything you packed is adorable. Second: I’m going to CA for 10 days for work/play in a few weeks and I need to channel this packing method!!
Those are some stylish clothes. I hope you had fun!
Those are some good pictures. :)
Great tips! I saved this for when I’m packing for Europe. And I ALMOST got those packing bags from J Crew, but decided to wait…you may have convinced me they’re worth it ;) Have the best time!
i always have a few things that spill into the husband’s bag (that’s what the men are for, right?!). loving your instagram these days! hope you continue to enjoy your trip!
Awesome packing job! San Francisco is tricky with weather. I think it’s better to over pack instead of being cold. Please report back on how well it all worked out when you return!
(I always end up shoving things in Kurt’s bag when we travel. I feel like he brings 2 t-shirts and is set. Of course he has room for my extra pair of shoes!)
you did a great packing job (but where are all the shoes?! lol). have loved following along on your adventures thanks to instagram.
The prettiest packing I’ve ever seen.
