rooms j’adore

These rooms are totally inspiring me right now. I’m in love with the colors and and the florals and the coziness. This is the color scheme I’m going for. Colorful, light, and playful, with a little bit of chic, and a little bit of classy.

I’m planning to make my own curtains for the new apartment. My friend Bailey inspired me and I think I can do it too! Since the couches are a pinky-red, I’ve been thinking about a yellow pattern for the curtains. I’m in the midst of online fabric looking, but it’s hard to know what’s nice and what’s not! I guess I’ll have to start ordering some fabric swatches soon.

Thinking of decorating just makes my heart flutter. LOVE it!

kitchen inspiration

I think one of my favorite rooms in a home (or apartment) is the kitchen. I love how people always gather there to make meals, to talk over vegetables boiling and a glass of cold milk. Eating crackers and cheese before dinner, and brownies and ice cream for dessert. There’s something about the kitchen that makes a home a home.

Right now, I don’t know what my future kitchen will look like, but I do have some ideas for what pleases my eye. One thing I know is that I would love a lot of light and soft colors. I’d like to mix patterns and prints in my dishes and bowls. And collect things that are functional and sturdy, yet pretty too.

Here are some ideas I love: one. two. three. four. five.

things i saw, things i love

oh weekends, blissful glorious weekends. I can’t get enough of you!

Here are some things that have caught my eye recently…. hope you like!

I have a wish that someone will make me a quilt as colorful as this one someday. I am such a quilt person and the colors and patterns in this one are so bright and beautiful. Photo via flickr.

How adorable are these handmade hairpins by Little Miss Mamma. She’s inspired by anthropologie and gives a great tutorial on how to make these gems over at KoJo Designs.

I love the light in this bedroom. The skylights are a dream come true and I love the wall paper on that one wall. Looks so simple and pretty! Also note the bookshelves right in the alcove by the bed. Perfect! Photo seen at My Ideal Home.

Yummy fruit skewers!! All this needs is some strawberries and raspberries and they would be the skewers from heaven. Summer fruit, I love you! Photo from flickr.

Speaking of summer (it’s all summer, all the time in this head of mine), I think this carnival party theme from Martha Stewart is so fun. So perfect for a July or August birthday!

I recently saw this purse/travel bag on Pinterest and I’m head over heals in love. I can’t figure out where it’s from though! Anyone know? If so, let me in on the secret. Isn’t it so awesome!?

And lastly, I’m perfectly addicted to buying bowls at anthropologie. I’ve started collecting a few of these lovely patterns and I won’t stop until I have them all. I love the mismatch look!

Hope you’re having a great weekend!! I’m enjoying my time in Connecticut visiting my new tiny baby cousin, little Hope Elea. She’s too precious for words!

a relaxing weekend and new furniture to boot!

It was a great weekend filled with a little bit of everything and not much of anything. I love these types of weekends best of all. Nothing planned, no where to be.

The highlight was definitely my thrift store find. A delicious Nantucket-y red 3-piece set (couch, love-seat, chair… and an ottoman for good measure!) for a eye-popping $99. I feel like I won the lottery.

And it’s glorious.

Zanner and I will be moving to a new apartment in the fall. I’m so excited I could burst. Right now I own a 3-piece furniture set from IKEA and that’s held it’s own for a good 6 years now, but I’m ready for a change. I’ve learned that I’m more of a color-loving girl and this bright couch certainly does the trick. I can’t wait to add patterned throw pillows and find complementary curtains and the like.

I’m envisioning an anthropologie inspired look. My heart is smiling just at the thought of it.

I spent the better part of the afternoon just lying on the big couch in the sunshine, reveling in my luck. Next step is to give the furniture a good thorough wash. Yeee-haw. What a steal!
