honeymoon excitement !!

the world is your oyster

This past weekend we made one of the biggest moves yet in terms of planning our wedding…

We booked our honeymoon!

On one hand I can hardly believe we’re making it happen and on the other hand, I’m all, of course we are doing this! WE ARE MAKING THIS HAPPEN!

Looking up flights was no walk in the park, though. I honestly felt like I’ve spent the past three years searching even though it’s only been a little over a month. Ha! Every night I would do a little bit more research and every night I would feel my head spinning one thousand spins. Until Sunday afternoon when I found the most amazing prices I’ve seen yet and VOILA! I booked it! The rush of booking a flight especially an international one is kind of surreal. My palms were sweating, for one. And my mouth was in the biggest grin it could ever make.

And now… the details!

We will be taking our honeymoon abroad for 20 days. Yes, T W E N T Y  D A Y S S S S.

We are flying in and out of Venice (with one overnight layover in Istanbul) and with 20 days and a passport I believe the saying is true: the world really is our oyster.

Here is a very rough draft of our very tentative plan:

One night in Istanbul {this is because of the flight deal we snagged — we have a 19 hour layover and we’re choosing to look at it as an opportunity! We will have enough time for a bit of sightseeing, dinner, and an early breakfast the next morning.}

1-2 days in Venice

Train to Rome…

2 days in Rome

Train/Bus to the Amalfi Coast…

3 days on the Amalfi Coast {Sorrento? Positano? Furore?!}

Trek across Italy {by bus/car} to the Adriatic Sea…

Ferry across to Croatia…

10+ days traveling the coast and cities of Croatia !!

We hope to hit Dubruvnik, Hvar, Split, Plitvice National Park, Zagreb, Rovinj… and hopefully more! {Are we crazy? Maybe. Absolutely. Do we love it? WE SURE WILL.}

And then finally finishing off with a Ferry back to Venice before we FLY ON HOME.

As I typed up that list now I just kept thinking, is this real life? Pinch me, please. Zan and I are definitely a pair of adventuresome travelers. The more we can see the better and we’re not afraid to jam pack a day full of everything, but we’re also not opposed to staying put for a few days on the beach throughout our stay. This trip will definitely be an exhausting one, but I also know that I feel so alive with each passing moment in a new place. I am so excited I can hardly stand it.

So far I am still in the research phase. Which means being on Airbnb and Pinterest all night every night until I feel like my eyes are going to bleed. But I’m not complaining! Never! I’ve also been returning to this post and this post and this post from Hither and Thither over and over because Ashley has amazingly detailed info and her travel photos are just so pleasing to look through!

I’ve also found this blog, which is fantastic, specifically for Croatia info. So much good!

And now, my very favorite question to ask:

Do you have any advice to give? Affordable places to stay, things you think we should see and do? Have you ever been to any of the places we’re planning on visiting? I’ve only ever been to Venice as far as Italy goes, and Croatia will be completely new to us! We would love any comments or tips you have to give. Any and all!

XO!

{P.S. THANK YOU SO MUCH for your
email on Croatia, Chrissy! I am cherishing it
and all the info you sent us!
INCREDIBLE!}

on finding the dress.

Ceremony // Boston

Wedding dress shopping is such a surreal thing. You have one hour to try on as many dresses as you can in an entire store filled with the most gorgeous gowns you have ever laid your eyes on and then hopefully, maybe fall in love with one. Overwhelming is an understatement here. But about a month ago I did just that. I found the one and I love it to the moon and my sister loves it, and my mom– well, if wiping tears from your eyes means anything (which I like to believe it does), then we got it right! We found a winner!

We took one weekend and went to 3 places. This worked for me, and I’m grateful– but it’s a lot of brain work trying on those dresses! On Friday we visited Anthropologie in Chestnut Hill where they actually have an entire section of the store dedicated to the BHLDN line. You must make an appointment online and when you do so you mention the names of the dresses you’d like to try on during your time there. I requested quite a few, but some of my favorites were The Persiphone Gown, The Penelope Gown, and The Daphne Dress. {Also, now that I’m browsing the website the Lucca Maxi is INCREDIBLE, but I don’t think this was one of the choices at the time of my appointment.} Looking at them again I’m completely googly eyed, but my thoughts on the dresses in person were actually quite different. I didn’t love them! THE TRAGEDY! I wanted to love them because Anthropologie is the definition of my LOVE LANGUAGE, but I just didn’t. I couldn’t! Try as I might I didn’t feel any feelings and this honestly made me quite sad.

And also a little bit nervous, too. WOULD I FIND A DRESS TO LOVE?

I want to be sure to mention that my experience at BHLDN was wonderful. We were helped by the nicest people {thanks, Olivia!} and everyone was so kind– the nicest. And! We were served champagne! How it should be, you know? I would definitely recommend it to others looking to find a dress. The bridal shop is gorgeous and their dresses are lovely– it just turned out there wasn’t one for me!

The next morning I got up feeling good and ready to take on the day. Since my mom came for the weekend we spent the morning dreaming up a few wedding details and then we ventured to Beacon Hill. Ceremony is a little boutique tucked away on River Street and it’s interior is just divine. My heart felt a flutter a soon as we arrived and looking back it seems perfect that I found my dress here. Alix, the owner, opened the shop up in 2013 and her style on all things, especially Bridal things, is just exactly right.

{That’s Maura up in that photo. She works at Ceremony and helped me at my appointment that day. Thank you, Maura! Another lovely bridal boutique soul. God bless them all.}

finding the dress

Ceremony is everything a bridal shop should be and more. It is light and bright and filled with the most gorgeous dresses you could ever dream up. Perfectly simple, perfectly pretty. Appointments are one hour and for that time you literally have the entire loft to yourself. It’s a dream! I arrived a little early and as the previous appointment was coming to a close I was able to browse the sample sale rack a bit and found a few I liked. I also worked my way through a few other racks in the front of the shop, but prices are fairly steep here so I had to be careful! Nothing worse than finding your dream dress out of your price range I kept reminding myself. Once I had a good number of choices I began trying them on one by one. It is so fun to step into a wedding dress. Pure happiness, I tell you! Each time I would come out from the dressing area my sister would gasp with delight.

So. Much. FUN.

:)

finding the dress

It was here at Ceremony where I found it. I felt it right away and at first I felt joy and then I felt peace.

G L E E E E E, glorious glee.

We still had one more dress appointment that afternoon and Alix so kindly offered to hold the dress for 24 hours {it was a sample dress, so I really needed to make a decision!}. Our last stop was the Vows bridal outlet in Watertown. Our experience here was not as lovely or private {Saturdays are busy!} but they do have plenty of dresses and the prices are RIGHT. I felt like I needed to come here because I made the appointment and also just to be 100% sure that I’d found the dress for me. And of course, I just kept thinking of the Ceremony dress. It was in my mind the entire time. Every dress I tried on was nowhere near as magical, not-a-single-feeling!— It was crystal clear what I needed to do.

I dialed that Beacon Hill number and made that dress mine.

P.S. That last photo is not MY dress, but a pretty one indeed!

P.P.S. Find a reason to visit Ceremony. :)

Life lately has been a whirlwind of good. I really want to get back into documenting the memories on this blog because looking back on the past is one of my favorite things to do. I’m thankful for all the writing I’ve done here and for all the photos I’ve shared— such an easy, happy way to be able to return to the best of times. I want to remember that as I move through 2015. In an effort to “get back into it”, here’s a little update on the best of life lately…

//

M A K I N G: Invitations for our wedding. We’ve decided to go the handmade route and I am designing them while my wonderfully talented Aunt will illustrate and hand letter them. I’m going with a floral theme and I’m so happy to gather people we love to help make the day all come together.

D R I N K I N G: Throat coat tea. I started feeling under the weather last night and woke up feeling much of the same. Hopefully my 2+ hour nap today and the crazy amount of liquids I’ve been inhaling will help soon.

W A N T I N G: To keep my house clean and clutter-free. Right after New Years I went on a house purge {along with the rest of the world} and I’m really trying to stick to being organized consistently around here. A place for everything and everything in it’s place.

W A T C H I N G: Gilmore Girls. Still. I don’t watch a lot of TV {we completely got rid of cable when we moved}, but when I do happen to turn it on it’s straight to Netflix I go. Also, football, because it’s impossible not to this time of year. GO PATS!

R E A D I N G: I recently finished The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up, which was what prompted my de-cluttering spree and I LOVED it. The basic lesson learned is that you must go through your home and hold each item in your hand. Does it spark joy? I love the simplicity of it all and highly recommend this book if you’re looking to tidy up your life. For Christmas I gifted Zan A Boat, a Whale & a Walrus which is written by the owner and chef of one of the restaurants we visited while in Seattle, and each night I read a little more of the stories and soak in all the gorgeous food photography. I’m hoping to go to a local pot luck book club featuring this cookbook next month, too!

L I S T E N I N G  T O: Our wedding band just sent us a sample CD and this weekend I drove around to all my errands listening to it and loving it. For awhile I just kept putting Pachelbel’s Cannon in D on repeat and crying my eyes out. The good kind of tears. Oh my goodness. I just can’t wait.

E A T I N G: Whole foods. Since the beginning of January I officially pronounced myself on WHOLE WEDDING, which is my own little version of Whole 30 that I will keep until my wedding day. Any and all meals eaten at home or at school will be Whole 30 compliant with the exception of dinners out with friends and the promise of celebrating and raising toasts to all things happy and exciting AS WE SHOULD. :) So far, so good. :)

S M E L L I N G: Nothing!!! Still!!!! Doctors appointment in a few weeks. Will see what the deal is then! I do feel tons better in terms of sinus pressure headaches since my surgery, so there’s that. And I never take allergy medicine and never feel like I need to. So there’s that too! {I might have to take this section off in the future though. We shall seeee.}

W I S H I N G: Three day weekends could last forever.

E N J O Y I N G: Winter so far. You will find me hard pressed to EVER say that but this year is magic and I’m thankful for that.

H O P I N G: We can get all the planning done before summer! We’ve decided to get married on the sooner side {JUNE!} and I’m super happy about the decision, but am hoping we can keep the momentum going mostly because we have to!

N E E D I N G: More of this really great dry shampoo.

F O L L O W I N G: A favorite blog of mine, Practicing Simplicity. Jodi has started a new photography series that is simple and user-friendly. All things I need when it comes to the technical side of taking photos.

F E E L I N G: Completely and utterly content.

W E A R I N G: Lots of sweaters. And these completely awesome sherling boots. Every day without fail!

B O O K M A R K I N G: Lots of weddings on Pinterest. This one from Miss Moss is one of my all time favorites.

L O V I N G: This part of my life right now. Full of joy and excitement. What could be better than that?
