YUMMY Cookbooks

I was in Barnes and Noble a few weeks ago and was perusing through the cookbook section. SO FUN. This is something that I do often (read: at least twice a month). I love cookbooks. They just make me wish I was a real cook. Like Giada, for instance. LOVE Giada. I don’t ever really buy cookbooks though. I’m more of a “google search a recipe” kind of girl. I just don’t plan my meals far enough in advance. I’m more of the “last minute/what am I going to make tonight?” type. It’s all good. Also, cookbooks are expensive. And I try not to do expensive whenever I can help it.
However, if I did buy cookbooks these are surely the ones I would buy:

Oh wow. Imagine all the possibilities.

I really like this one. Zan and I like to have sushi parties. They are so fun and delicious.

Yes, siree! I’ll gladly have lobster at home.

Almost everyone I know has this cookbook or some version of it. This makes me want it too.

And lastly:

I LOVE PW!!!! This book is fabulous because each recipe has great photography of the food to help you with each step. Plus, Ree Drummond is just so seriously AWEOME. Someday this cookbook will be mine. Someday soon I hope.

Speak

Ok WOW this book was intense. But very good. An emotional book for young adults about a girl who’s been abused. She needs to speak up, but she can’t. An important theme, an important subject. A hard topic, but a realistic one. I couldn’t help but cry for Melinda. This book is meant for YA readers, but everyone will get something out of it. The story hooks you in from the beginning and you don’t want to put it down. A powerful book.

My rating: 5 out of 5 stars

The Friday Night Knitting Club

I stayed up late last night to finish this book and I was in tears by the end! It’s about a strong woman named Georgia who is raising her teenage daughter alone in New York. She owns her own business- a knitting shop where the real magic of the book begins. The Friday Night Knitting club is formed with a few random acquaintances (all knitters or at least want-to be’s) meeting to knit, eat, and enjoy each other’s company every Friday night. Throughout the book you get to know each of the characters and their struggles and triumphs. By the end you get a glimpse into each of their lives and learn the value of love, friendship, and appreciating who you are.

I liked this book, especially the main character Georgia. An emotional ending, but one where when I closed the book I had a warm feeling inside. That’s what this book is like, a warm cozy blanket keeping you satisfied. I don’t knit, but after reading this book I sure wish I did. Overall a good read, one I will definitely recommend to my book club.

The Help

It seems appropriate I finished this book on Martin Luther King Day. It’s an absolutely wonderful story about 3 women in Jackson, Mississippi during the civil rights movement. I fell in love with each of the characters, so much that I didn’t ever want the book to end. Miss Skeeter, Aibileen and Minny: Beautiful woman who pull at your heart on every page. It’s a long book, but worth every minute you spend reading. I promise you, you will love this book– It’s brilliant.
