let’s go to harvard square.

Yesterday was our second day off because of Superstorm Sandy.

The first day I was bored out of my mind, and the second, which we spent in Harvard Square, was much MUCH better. I don’t know if you can tell this about me or not through this place that is the internets, but I am one of those people who cannot sit still. I am a mover and a shaker. So Monday, I almost didn’t make it through due to restlessness.

BUT I did. AND I’m here. And all is well.

In all seriousness, though, that storm was pretty terrible. PEOPLE OF NY! I’ve been thinking about you tons! And I love you all! Especially, ESPECIALLY you who are my friends. Thoughts and prayers, everyone. So many thoughts and prayers.

We were lucky through the storm and only had minor house shakes (due to wind) and only just the slightest flicker of power loss. Really, it was nothing much at all. We stayed inside all day Monday with our candles ready and our sugar supply high and by the end of the night the only thing dwindling was the mega bag of pumpkin reese’s I bought for the trick-or-treaters (whoops).

The pictures in this post are all from our Tuesday frolic in Harvard Square. Harvard Square is super close to where we live so we decided to head over there for the afternoon to spend a little time in Cambridge. We got burgers at Flat Patties, shopped at Black Ink and Anthropologie, treated ourselves to some Burdick’s, and even went (finally!) to the Harvard Museum of Natural History. It was incredibly impressive and is now added to my “Best of Boston” list (which I’ve never written down, but definitely carry around in my head). After our trip to the museum we ended up at… big surprise… Border Cafe. What can I say. Except it’s just OUR FAVORITE.

Were you affected at all by the storm? If so, I sincerely hope everything’s alright and that you’re safe. If you were in the path of Sandy did you have a “hurricane day”, too? How did you spend your days off?

(Fingers crossed you drank hot chocolate and ate Mexican.)

Also, what are your favorite spots in Harvard Square? Tell me your secrets!

Wishing you all well. Xo.

  1. glad you’re well! I, too was fortunately spared. Harvard Square is one of my favorite places. Last time I was there we went to Tory Row for brunch – and then most of the shops you pictured – in addition to Anthro, Urban Outfitters and then we got ice cream somewhere near Border Cafe.

  2. Border Cafe is my favorite, I miss it so much! I also really love Black Ink. I could never go to Harvard square without stopping there.

  3. Glad you’re okay! I want to go to Harvard Square, it’s adorable!!

  4. Glad you had some fun on your 2nd day off! You always find the cutest spots to explore. Well, I guess you do live in BOSTON so I’m sure that’s pretty easy.

    thanks for sharing the photos!!

  5. LOVE Harvard Square and especially love that super cute Hunter boot collection :)

  6. We had it easy too! I spent the day needle felting and make coconut fried tofu and watching lots of tv…I am one of those people that can sit still. =) LOVED it.

Also love the Museum of Natural History.

And I love those Hunter flats.

And I love L.A. Burdick’s (and the dude looking out their window).

  7. It looks you hit all my favorite spots! Except we always make time for Raven Used Books and Harvard Bookstore and a coffee/half a brownie from Crema Cafe. You won’t be sorry. Wish I’d gotten Monday and yesterday off!

  8. I was thinking about you earlier today and hoping you were staying safe up there! Glad to see that all is well. I saw a picture of water flooding one of the subways in New York, and it looked so terrifying. I can’t imagine how scary it’s been up there.

As always, your pictures are beautiful. :)

    • Thanks for your thoughts!

And yes, I’m sure it was super scary to be in NY– especially in the parts where the flooding was bad/people lost their power.

  9. Those natural history museum photos are wonderful! I’ve taken terrible photos there, now I want to revisit and try again.

Next time you need to visit Oona’s! You want to shop only vintage for the rest of your life. And the even have a section for Zan. It’s only a block or so out of the square, towards Central.

  10. Glad to hear you and Boston survived Sandy! I love the photos – Harvard Sq is one of my favorite spots and I’ve eaten many a basket of chips at Border Cafe – soooooooooo delicious!

    Thanks for sharing!

  11. ive never been to harvard square so i can’t recommend anything sorry! but your photos look awesome. glad to hear you survived sandy

  12. This looks like such a fun day out! I like that you embraced your day off and had a good time :) I used to have family in Cambridge, so I am familiar with Harvard Square and love it! Border Cafe & Burdicks are some favorites :) And Crema Cafe, too!

  13. Love the Harvard Museum of Natural History. Went there in college with my zoology class and have been wanting to go back for oh 8 years… haha maybe I should just do it!
