sister style // v. 1

Welcome to the very first EVER episode of Sister Style…

Starting Yours Truly and my favorite sister, MEG!

I’m humoring you all with the volume one business. In reality, I have no idea if we’ll ever do this again. I thought “Sister Style” was kind of catchy and kept saying it the whole time we were snapping these pictures. (Think “superstar!” and Mary Katherine Gallagher and you’ve got the right image in your head. Except instead of lunges, more like strike a pose.) My sister and I took a day trip to Portsmouth, New Hampshire this past Saturday and while we were there I had the idea to do this joint outfit post. I saw the white wall, and it just seemed like the perfect opportunity for an impromptu photo shoot. My sister went along with it happily, which is why she’s my favorite.

First of all, if you don’t already know, Meg and I are super close. We used to fight like animals when we were younger, but now we’re the chummiest of chums. She lives with me and Zan (our apartment has two floors!), and I always feel super lucky to get to spend as much time with her as I do, especially when Zan’s working late, or on weekends. I think one of the best things about having a sister, besides having a forever friend, is being able to share clothes. When we were in high school we wouldn’t ever dare to be caught dead sporting the same outfits (I shake my head at the immaturity), but now, we are glad to have a second wardrobe to choose an outfit from. Imagine!

These two outfits are a pretty typical representation of our style. We’re in love with Madewell and J.crew, but have had a lot of great luck at Old Navy in the past year, too. I’ve been dabbling in a little vintage lately, and of course, we’re both suckers for Target. But who isn’t?

+

On Meg: J.crew vest {similar} :: Madewell sweathirt :: Old Navy pants

On me: Crewcuts hat :: similar coat :: similar shirt {and here} :: similar skirt :: similair boots

Yeah, I’m wearing a children’s hat. WHATEVS.

I’ll be sharing photos from Portsmouth soon. Have you ever been? It was my first time visiting and I loved it!

Comments

  1. i heart this BIG time and hope we get a few more volumes in the new year. that red coat {swoon}

  2. This is so sweet! I love it almost as much as I’m loving your hats. So please let there be many more of these posts :) xo! eliza

  3. Love both your outfits AND especially that you and your sister are so close now. My sister and I have gotten a lot closer after we’ve gotten older – we are nowhere near as stylish as you two though!

  4. So cute! I love that your sister lives upstairs, too. My sister lived with us for a few months last year, and it was amazing to have that time together as adults who actually like each other!

And YES to Portsmouth. We actually thought about moving there from NYC (but came to Boston instead). There is a fab breakfast place there – The Friendly Toast?! So crazy and fun! There’s one in Cambridge, too, but I’ve never been to that location. Excited to your pics!

  5. Firstly, your outfits are adorable! And secondly, I am SO jealous that you live with your sister! I totally relate with wanting to pull each other’s hair out when we were younger, but now that we are older, we have so much in common

. Also, I’m not sure who is the younger or older sister, but my sister is 5 years younger and about 5 inches taller (no exaggeration) so people are always thinking I’m the youngest! I guess I’ll be thankful one day! hah

  6. For real – you are both adorable!

  7. Please make this an ongoing feature. You two are the cutest. My sister lives in Colorado and we’re so close but I literally tear up when I think about how little I see her.

  8. This is so cute! Loe both your outfits, can’t wait for more !! xo L

  9. You guyzzzzz! Stop being so cute! Too adorable, and love love the Madewell/J.Crew love going on here. If only I could convince my sister to do this.

Oh, let’s be honest. If only my sister had style.

  10. LOVE this! You and your sister are too adorable. I would love to see more outfit posts and style tips and sources. Keep ’em coming!

I have an older sister about the same distance in age as you and Meg. I wish we were closer. It looks like fun!

  11. I love Meg! You guys are adorable. And also LUCKY!

My sisters and I have complete opposite body shape/size/height. I don’t even get to steal shoes. (Funny thing is, THEY are completely the same, even though they have a 15 year difference between them). I guess this is why I am such a sucker for accessories….

  12. I hope there’s at least a volume two to this series! I have two sisters and love your outfits. Old Navy and Target really do have some great finds. Anyway, I can totally relate to your past outfit-drama (or whatever you call it). I used to (okay sometimes I still do) get annoyed when my sisters wore similar outfits as me–even though we never went to the same school at the same time for it to matter! Anyway, we’re also at the point when we can sort of share clothes here and there and I must agree, it is fun!

  13. You two are the cutest!!! : ) XO

  14. Adorable!! Hope there’s more!

  15. you two are the cutest! this better be volume 1 of MANY.

  16. oh you two…

    portsmouth! love it there!

  17. You two are the cutest sisters! I love your styles. :)

  18. How cute are you!

Whatevs, I wore children’s sneakers for as long as I possibly could (way too far into my teens). And crewcuts headbands? HellO. Mine.
