for my dad

I love you, Dad. You are the most amazing person I have ever known. Thanks for being brave and loving and goofy. I love it when you laugh so hard you can’t stop. It makes everyone around you laugh too and pretty soon everyone is laughing with you. Thanks for giving me your laid back attitude and thanks for teaching me to be kind (and say hi) to everyone. There isn’t a place we go around town where you don’t know someone. It might be because you’ve been around for so long, but I know it’s also because you’re so likeable. I couldn’t have asked for a better dad, and I’m so glad you’re mine.

Happy, happy, happy birthday!

vacation is near.

This time next week and I’ll be on the beaches of Cape Cod.

Oh glory.

I look forward to this week all year long. We started visiting the Cape for a week four years ago, right after my sister graduated college, and have been back to visit and enjoy the sunshine each year since. We visit Chatham, on the elbow of Cape Cod, and there is something about this little town that charms your socks off. I love spending the afternoon at Lighthouse Beach with a good book, taking frequent walks up and down the shore. I can’t wait to get some much needed reading done. I’ve been neglecting my books this summer and the simple beach setting is the perfect place to soak up a good book.

I also can’t wait to spend some time walking the Main street and visiting the small shops and boutiques. It’s fun to pop into the shops and take a look at all the beach decor. I usually always end up with one trinket or another to bring home and admire during the cold New England winter months. It’s important to remind yourself of your favorite places and warmers days when the weather gets dark and cold. But for now, we don’t need to think about that!

And at the end of the day there is nothing better than spending time at the house we rent (usually a different one every year, but they all have their own perfect charm). My mom does such a great job finding a place that’s beachy and cozy. It’s fun to have a cape house be yours for the week and I can’t get enough of spending time with my family while we’re there. We lounge and cook and shop and dine. It’s the best.

It’s the perfect way to close out summer.

I can’t wait.

happy anniversary, mom and dad!

Today marks the 30th anniversary of my parents marriage. Wow! 30 years. That’s pretty special. They got married in my uncle’s backyard, with folding chairs from a family business, under a canopy of trees. The picture on the left is from the day of their wedding (my two older cousins were their flower girls).

I am so thankful to have my parents. I love being with them and am so grateful for everything they have done for me and my sister over the years. The love and care they have shown for us is endless and I appreciate them every day. We are the luckiest of lucky. This I am sure.

Next week we’ll be together in Cape Cod and it can’t come soon enough.

Love you, Mom and Dad! Happy Anniversary!

ikat

I need something IKAT in my new apartment. I’m in love love love with it and I’m just trying to figure out how to tastefully get this look into my new digs.

I’m thinking curtains would be lovely.

Navy blue? Or dark teal?? With my nantucket-y red couches?

MMMM. LOVE.

I’ve already decided I’m making my own curtains. Buying is ridiculously expensive. Does anyone know how you get Ikat fabric? Thats not too pricey? Luckily, I don’t need too many yards cause the windows are on the smaller side.

Oh, I dreaming over here my friends. How’s your Monday going so far?
