Boy did I ever have a Boston-filled weekend.

I spent Friday through Sunday kid-sitting my little summer buddy in Beacon Hill. Her parents went out of town for a friend’s birthday weekend and I took over to hold down the fort. We had a great couple of days going to birthday parties, visiting the Aquarium, and hanging out with friends at the park. I tried to snap a lot of pics. For one, I wanted to share them with her mom, but also because the life of a city-kid is intriguing to me. I grew up in a neighborhood where every house had a front and back yard, and where eating out meant Saturday night at the Friendly’s down the street (yeah, clown cone!). This little lady eats sushi for lunch and has dinners at the Four Seasons. Eloise, perhaps? Kind of, except instead of dresses she wears skorts, and she traded the patent leathers in for Pumas.

Linking up with a {little} dash of ash…

friday night pinterest lovefest:

one. two. three. four. five.

sun. ikat. dancer. bedroom. balloons. beach. painting.

So it’s Friday night and I’m pinning away. Nothing fancy pants for this girl. Just PJ’s, a glass of water, and my MacBook.

Hopefully you’re doing something of the same…

It’s what all the cool kids are doing!

Have a lovely weekend!

Back to School Night

Tonight is Back to School night!

Basically this means I need to stand up in front of all the parents in my classroom and talk for 30 minutes about what I do with their kids all day long. When I was in high school and college and even grad school the thought of public speaking made me feel like throwing up. I would definitely have a shake in my voice, my hands would be clammy, and my face would resemble the brightest strawberry in the patch. I think I might have broken out in hives once too. Not pretty.

Last year I was SUPER nervous for the parents to come in on Back to School Night. It was my first year and I knew my history of talking in front of groups. But somehow, once I started, I felt like I could go on forever. It felt easy, and I felt confident, and instantly I knew that I would be just fine. Better than fine, even. I rocked it.

The thing about giving a presentation in my classroom is this:

I discovered that I am an expert at talking about what I do all day because I know what I am doing, I am good at what I am doing, and I love what I am doing. I know how I feel about teaching and can easily explain what my beliefs are. I am confident that I run my classroom in an efficient way and I know that I am trying my hardest to see that every child grows to their highest potential. Talking about my teaching is easy for me because it’s what I was meant to do.

And so this year, I am excited about back to school night.

I’m ready to show them my stuff. You know, knock their socks off and all that good stuff. Bring it ON.

Joy the Baker Podcast

You know Joy the Baker, right?

I love that girl’s blog.

SO witty and fabulous.

And of course, the most amazing amount of yummy, too.

Well she and her friend Tracy over at the blog Shutterbean have got a whole bunch of podcasts up on itunes. And they’re free! Bestill my heart.

It’s so perfect for my drive to work– the episodes are short and amusing. Both ladies are pretty awkward, but that’s part of what makes it so awesome. By awkward, I mean amazing, because being awkward is the best. They talk about the most random stuff (like their cats and their most embarrassing moments), and basically they just laugh at themselves the whole time. A good amount of time I find myself chucking a long, which is a perfect way to start my morning and a great way to unwind at the end of the day.

If your looking for something to listen to while driving (or working out, or cooking, or getting ready in the morning) then give this podcast a try. It’s entertainment, that’s for sure.

Visit Homefries for the latest and greatest (and old episodes too!) of the Joy the Baker Podcast and other cool shows too!
