little things.

afterlight

This morning I woke up at 8:00, poured myself a mason jar of iced coffee and then I went over to my calendar to assess the situation. As it turns out I have been on summer vacation for officially three weeks. There is this part of me that gets antsy around this time every summer because as much as I want to enjoy it/make the most of it/sing to high heavens that I’m in love with it, I can always feel it slipping away at the same time, which makes me a little sad. I know this is ridiculous. I know that some people get no official vacation to speak of at all and so I tell myself to QUIT IT. Just soak it in, girl. Things are GOOD.

Here are just a few things I’ve been loving, reading, buying, seeing…

I’ve been wearing this swimsuit a ton this summer. I love the pattern {I got it in green, too!} and the fit is perfect. Usually a j.crew swim suit lover, this year I tried Boden and I love them. They have SO much cute stuff {like this and this and this and this}, I kind of want it all.

I know I’ve been instagramming and twittering the bejesus out of this book, but WILD. Seriously, wonderful. Loved the way Cheryl told her story– I thought the pacing was perfect and her writing terrific and her adventure… well, just read it. You will love it.

I’ve been making iced coffee a few days a week this summer {honestly, it’s so easy– I just brew a very strong 12 cup pot, then let it cool and pop it in the fridge. Lasts for a few days and is really nice to wake up to!}, but doesn’t this coffee smoothie recipe look amazing? I think I need to try that one out sometime this week. YUM. Plus, that Joy the Baker never let’s me down. Love her every which way.

I finally am finding time to read blogs! For awhile there I was struggling. My favorite lately is Camp Patton. Girlfriend for real cracks me up. But I feel like I need more? I feel like my feed is empty lately {probably because SUMMER, but still.} Got any favorite reads for me?

This pin board. And really, all of Kate’s pinterest boards.

This etsy shop! WANT IT ALL.

Favorite instagram feeds… one. two. three. four. five.

And last, but certainly not least: FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS

YOU GUYS. This show is the absolute best. I just want to hug every single character and yell CLEAR EYES FULL HEARTS CAN’T LOSE at the top of my lungs when I get out of bed every morning. We are in the middle of season 2, and just like my angst over the end of summer, I can feel my angst over the last episode of FNL, too. I just never ever want it to end. Make it last, make it laaaaaaast.

Texas {and Tim Riggins} forever, and have a Happy Monday, y’all.

Comments

  1. So, apparently I need to start shopping at Boden. Also, I LOVE those Instagram feeds. Had to start following them all, too. :)

  2. I totally get you on the summer slipping away thing. Summer is a treat- I don’t want to miss a single second of it!

Enjoy FNL- it’s the best! Almost makes me want to move to Texas. Almost.

    • I know I feel kind of weird saying Texas forever, because I actually think Texas is kind of the worst. Except for FNL. It makes it worth it.

  3. FNL!! Yay, I love it so, so, so much. I get so jealous of people when they first start watching; I’m all, ‘omg you have no idea what’s going to happen and it’s so good!’ (And FYI, season two basically sucks compared to the rest of the seasons.) enjoy!!

  4. I don’t have the summer off, but I do get a panic-y “it’s going by so fast!” feeling around this time each year. I know there’s still so much great stuff left – I just want to do and enjoy it all!

And FNL! We’ve been saving season five for I think two months because I just don’t want it to be over. I’m starting to miss Coach Taylor and Tami too much, though, so we’ll have to dive in again soon. So glad you’re loving it!

P.S. Have you ever tried making cold press coffee? The BEST for delicious iced coffee at home.

    • I thought there were only 4 seasons. Finding out there are 5 is the best news EVER.

And cold press coffee? Do you need a french press?

  5. I definitely need to check out FNL; summer TV is slow so I need something! And Wild is most definitely going on my reading queue :)

    • Ahhh! You NEED TO! You would LOVE IT!

We basically don’t even turn on cable anymore.. only Netflix. Which reminds me… I’ve been meaning to cancel the cable for months. Gots to do it!

  6. Trust me, SOAK IT IN. Luckily I fit in a nice vacation this summer so I can’t complain too much either, but coming to the sad realization that I’ll never have a summer break again is seriously depressing – the sunshine definitely helps though (I’m already dreading winter…).

And Oana Befort has the BEST calendar backgrounds for your phone, desktop, etc – I LOVE her stuff!! Definitely brightens the work computer!!

    Happy July!

    • Have you ever thought about teaching? ;)

Will need to check out Oana’s blog for the desktop calendars, too! Yay.

  7. My newest blog love is Gone With The Wynns they blog/vlog about there life living in an RV and traveling the country, but be warned it will make you want to sell everything and hit the open road!

    • Oh, that sounds SO fun!

This reminds me of another instagram feed that I LOVE… joy prouty… http://instagram.com/joyprouty

she is living in an RV with her family, too!

      • I had to comb through your posts to find the one where you recommended I follow @joyprouty on instagram, so I could say thank you. I feel like I’m getting to take a really cool family vacation this summer by following along with their adventures.

  8. “to assess the situation” made me laugh out loud. I could just see you sipping and reviewing dates with a pink pen. Camp Patton makes me laugh too, she really has a way with words.

I just looked over my feedly to see if I could recommend anything (I’m reading more than ever too!) You probably already know these….
    http://www.elephantineblog.com/ (lovely)
    http://saipua.blogspot.com/ (super photos!)
http://blog.youngnapark.com/ (she’s just pretty cool all around)
    http://cheandfidel.blogspot.com/ (always my favorite)
This is random, but the boutique company “of a kind” sends out a great weekly email newsletter of links they like: http://ofakind.com/pages/newsletter

    • I KNEW I could count on you! (Thank you.)

I only know elehantine! And I know you’ve mentioned Che and Fidel, too… need to get on top of these! And that newsletter sounds fun.

  9. CLEAR EYES FULL HEARTS CAN’T LOSE. I admittedly watched 9 episodes yesterday. I just absolutely can’t get enough. I’m through Season 4 and I just love everyone so much. Texas forever (but not really).

This post just makes me smile! :)

    • Haha, I love that– Texas Forever (but not really).

That’s what I think every time I say it! But Tim Riggins DEFINITELY FOREVER. No question.

      :-D

  10. oh, my you are one lucky gal! 3 weeks vacation… i get to take a 2 week summer trip this ear and am ecstatic about it! thanks for sharing the recommendations love them all :)

  11. thanks for the shout out, dear friend! (See what I did there….) I am mostly through season one of FNL. Wish we lived closer!

  12. aw. totallllllly made my night-o-crazy-kidlets. thank you!

will stalk these comments as I’m always in the market for new blogs!!

    • Yes! Makes sure to look at the one’s Rachael’s recommended. I can always count on her for the good stuff.

(and her blog is wonderful, too!)

  13. Yes, enjoy it, lady! You know it will always come around again. That’s the beauty of it.

Wild will be my next book from the library after your amazing reviews!

  14. FNL is pretty good! you know what I’ve been doing? Re-reading David Sedaris books. OH BOY. It’s time well spent. I’m pretty people on the train think I’m crazy from all the laughter.

    • Oh my gosh what a good idea. I have never laughed so hard as I did when reading the chapter in Me Talk Pretty One Day about the Halloween candy. Love David Sedaris so hard. SO GOOD.

  15. I think most people have the same feeling of summer slipping away, it’s not just you. So yeah, let’s just try to make the best of it. And I love that swimsuit! Might have to get one for myself! ;)

  16. FNL is hands down, one of the best shows ever on television. It’s unlike anything else and with the exception of that dumbbbbb story line in Season 2 (which only happened because the network was trying to make them “more like other shows”, ew), it’s near perfect.

I’m actually really jealous that you’re just experiencing it for the first time now. Le sigh.

Savor it! That’s all I can say!

    xo
