when your family comes to boston…

I am feeling all the warm and fuzzy feelings that one feels when they are going to see their family soon. Because I am ! Because they are coming HERE tomorrow!

!!!!!!

We mostly always keep our plans loose when my mom and dad come into town, which is a nice and stress-free way to roll, but I’ve also got a few ideas up my sleeve for our weekend in and around Boston…

I was thinking definitely a trip to Somerville Theatre to see The Great Gatsby. {If anyone knows my love for Leo, it’s my mom and dad. They were shelling out the big bucks to me when I went to see Titanic upward of 7 times when I was thirteen years old. I wish I could say I was kidding, BUT I’M SERIOUS.}

I was also thinking Orchard House. Because, well, Little Women! FAVORITE! And also, I have never ever been. I think my mom will love it.

And! We have been planning a trip up to Rockport for our “better late than never” mother’s day brunch at one of our favorite restaurants on Bearskin Neck, My Place By the Sea. I especially can’t wait to get up there since loving on Melanie’s post earlier this week! YAY!

Any other must-dos? Anything you love to do when your family is in town that can’t be missed?

Tell me your favorite things! I love hearing ideas from you guys.

Happy is the day when your pictures blast color again. The entire time I was editing these photos this afternoon I just kept smiling and thinking, spring looks good on this blog. Oh, definitely YES. Weekends have been pretty swell around here lately, too, if I do say so myself. We’re getting out and about on our bikes, wearing less layers, and basically just all around loving hard on this season. I can’t believe how gorgeous everything is right now. Have I never noticed this before or has it just never been this pretty? Whatever the reason, I am thankful for it. Spring looks pretty darn good on Boston, too.

Sunday was our first visit to SOWA, the Bean’s best open market. I love how much variety there is here– food trucks, handmade goods, vintage wonders, and a farmer’s market, too! I feel like every year it just keeps getting better. This week we got a chickpea fritter from Clover to share, and an order of their rosemary fries. Wow. I had heard Clover was good, but is it ever GOOD. They really nail it.

Our afternoon was filled riding through the streets here and there and everywhere. From the South End we headed towards downtown to enjoy a music concert at the Tremont Temple, and then we biked along the river on our way to a family party in Central Square. I can’t tell you how thrilled I was to be outside enjoying this city. And on my bike no less.

Joyful days are here again.

Once again, I am okay. I am locked up in my home and I am safe.

This is all I have the energy for today. This week has left me tired and weary in ways I can’t explain, and right now I just want my city back. Thank you, Boston PD for your tireless efforts to help this city + its people during the completely mind boggling events that have unfolded here this week. When it’s all over, and I believe {and hope} that it will be soon, we will celebrate your courage and perseverance forever.

You are heros.

Forever THANK YOU.

for boston.

I am completely overwhelmed with emotions over the events of yesterday, as I’m sure each and every one of you are, too.

My sister and I went out to watch the marathon with some friends yesterday morning and came back yesterday afternoon in a state of shock and sorrow. We are all okay, and all our friends in Boston are okay too. We were watching the marathon a few miles up and were a good distance from the finish line. I am humbled by the concerns from friends old and new, near and far. I am humbled by the response of people everywhere to this tragic event that ruined what was supposed to be a perfect day– a perfect day for the incredible athletes, a perfect day for the spectators, and a perfect day for Boston. Far from perfect, it’s sad to realize that our city and this day will never quite be the same.

My heart is broken for those that were injured and those that lost their lives. It is unimaginable and horrific and depressing. It will never make sense and it will always be unfair.

But for what it’s worth, I’m more proud than ever to call this place my home.

I’m proud of this city and its people who came out to watch and to cheer.

I’m proud of the Boston Police + paramedics + volunteers + of all the hospitals in Boston who worked so hard to help in the aftermath of the explosions.

I’m proud of those that offered up their homes + donated blood + food + comfort.

And more than anything, I’m so proud of all the runners and their months and months of training to get to this day. For those who crossed the finish line, and especially those that didn’t get the chance.

From now until forever, you are all marathoners to me.
