a bushel and a peck.

Today was gorgeous! A perfect fall day… so we decided to head out to the country and pick some apples! We chose Honey Pot Hill Orchard in Stow, MA and it did not disappoint. Apples, apples, everywhere, oh so many apples. I have to stop here and admit that I don’t even really like apples. HA. It’s something about the skin and the cold on my teeth. Just turns me off… BUT I do like apples baked, like apple pie and apple crisp. YUM. And I like apple cider and especially apple cider doughnuts. With lots of sugar on top. So even though I’m not in love with eating apples straight from the tree, the day was spectacular and the adventure was totally worth my while.
We got 30 pounds of apples. Oh my, we have a lot of baking to do.
Remember that song?…
A bushel and a peck.
(and a hug around the neck).
Here’s some pics from today. The colors were phenomenal.

yay yay yayyy.

YAY!! I’m in Bailey’s wedding in April and I just ordered my bridesmaid dress(es)! She gave us the option of 3 adorable dresses from j.crew (love!) and I ordered 2 because I just couldn’t make up my mind when I was at the store being fitted. I can’t wait till they arrive. Now I can take my time deciding which one I like best. They both look great on and I will definitely wear the dress again. I can’t wait to get my size and start the decision making!

Here are the 2 dresses I am choosing between… any thoughts? HELP!

Cuttyhunk.

This past weekend Zan and I went out to the Elizabeth Islands, off of Cape Cod. I’d never even heard of these islands before this summer and neither had Zan. When we were in CC my mom asked Zan what they were and when he realized he didn’t know he looked them up to find out. After doing some research we decided to take a trip out to the last island, called Cuttyhunk. It’s very small and only has about 50 or so year-round residents. More people inhabit the island in the summers, mostly in July and August. Since it’s the end of September the island was VERY quiet, but also very relaxing. It’s one of the most serene places I’ve ever been. There is one market (open 10-12 and 3-5 daily), one souvenir shop, and one place to eat. That’s it. Oh, and there are no cars… everyone drives around in golf carts. It’s so awesome. We had a great time walking around the island (found a little one room school house!), exploring the beach front and enjoying the ocean view from our little cabin at Pete’s Place. We ate at Bart’s Cart for lunch both days and bought lobsters for dinner on Saturday night. YAY! It was a great weekend trip, the perfect way to end summer, and so easy to visit from Boston!

Sunset from our deck. Amazing weather!

Birthday fun at TORO.

Last night we went out to dinner to celebrate my 26th birthday! Zan, Meg, Josh and I tried out Toro on Washington Street in the South End. The mom I am babysitting for knows all the hot spots for restaurants and such so I had her write down a list of good places. I am so glad I picked Toro because it was amazingly delicious!
It was super crowded too, which to me is always a good sign. We had to wait about 45 minutes for our table but were able to get 4 seats at the bar and have some fun cocktails. I got a delicious La Granada (Christiania vodka, pomegranate, housemade grenadine, splash rosé cava)… it was excellent. Yummy, yummy. The dinner was tapas so we got to try out tons of delicious little mini plates. Everything was great- definitely Top Chef quality! We got a bunch of different plates between the 4 of us but I think my favorites were the Atun Crudo (Yellowfin tuna with citrus and soy), the Patatas Bravas (Fried potatoes with alioli and spicy tomato sauce), and the Hamburguesas de Kobe (Mini burgers with smoked tomato, alioli and pickled red onion)– DEVINE! Finished off the night with some fried dough sticks with smoked chocolate on the side, topped with a birthday candle of course. It was an interesting dessert! I will be going back to this restaurant for sure. It gets 5 stars in my book!
